A unique concept in the world of Amateur Golf, the Vacheron Constantin Snow Golf Cup unites lovers of golf from all over the globe in the snowy backdrop of Megève. The five day experience has guests teeing off at the prestigious Mont d’Arbois Golf Club, attending a lavish gala and award ceremony and dining at the station’s most popular restaurants. There are a variety of different events including a Snow Golf kids day, the Schweppes Winter Cup, The Vacheron Constantin Snow Golf Cup and the World Snow Golf Championship. This year’s Tenth Annual tournament (which ran from 27th to 31st January) was once again a huge success. Golf on snow must be seen to be believed so perhaps pencil something in the diary for next year.

Snow Golf Cup – Megève
Monday, February 22nd, 2010“Olympic Day” – Morzine – 22nd February
Thursday, February 18th, 2010Morzine is incredibly proud of Jean Vuarnet. The 22nd February is the 50th anniversary of Jean Vuarnet’s Olympic Games victory. To mark the event Morzine is unveiling a statue of their hero 50 years after the Morzinois skier won the gold medal in downhill at the Squaw Valley Winter Games. There will be a live video link-up to Morzine’s current Olympians who are participating in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. This will be followed by a huge party in support of the Annecy 2018 Games bid. It is going to be great fun as the town is fiercely proud of its sportsmen and sportswomen. The night will end with a beautiful torchlit descent into the centre of the village, entertainment from local schoolchildren, free mulled wine and sweets! A truly local and somewhat historic event.
Venue: Tourist Office square.

Bargains in the Alps!
Monday, February 15th, 2010The Alpine Angels have been busy hunting down great deals in the Porte De Soleil and St Gervais valley this weekend, this is what they have found:
1. A bargain not to missed, 39m2 right in the middle of Morzine! This apartment to be renovated is made up of a living room, a kitchen, one bedroom, a bath room and an independent WC.
It comes with a cave and a parking place is and is priced at only 85000€!!
`
For more information have a look at http://www.alpineangels.net/alpine-properties/portes-du-soleil_R1/morzine_L10/apartment-for-renovation_P3470.htm or contact us at info@alpineangels.net.
2. A quiet 24m2 studio with a sleeping area just a few steps from Morzine centre, a true bargain at 70 000€.
3. Wow- I almost bought this property myself this weekend, its a bargain! I then realised a three bedroom chalet was possibly a little much for a newly converted ski bum. A newly built three bedroom chalet tastefully designed and situated in a small hamlet between St Gervais and Les Contamines, priced at 400 000 €.

Midweek in Chamonix? – Wednesday 17th February
Saturday, February 13th, 2010Chamonix offers an array of restaurants, bars and clubs. But if you would prefer to abstain from over indulge, or prefer your evenings to be as sport focused as your days, Wednesday night offers a perfect option for you. The NOCTURNE DE SKI DE FOND is a cross country skiing race at night. Teams of two compete in the races. Each skier does one lap of the course before handing over the relay to their partner, and this is repeated several times. The “rondes nocturnes” night races are always incredibly friendly occasions with large crowds of spectators who come to encourage the racers. Well worth a visit.

Avoriaz – Snow Carnival – 6 Feb – 6 Mar 2010 (annual)
Monday, February 8th, 2010If you fancy a change from all the festivals of Morzine or Les Gets, Avoriaz also has its own 5-week long Snow Carnival. Every evening there are special après-ski activities include workshops for painting on wood, face-painting and shows for children. Once a week families can get together for the resort parade which climaxes with a fireworks display and Gluwein tasting (another favorite activity of mine). The Snow Carnival is free entertainment for the whole family set against the backdrop of the French Alps. Thanks Avoriaz, that sounds great.
Avoriaz – Ripcurl Girls Weekend – 16 – 17th February
Saturday, February 6th, 2010For girls, snowboards and girls that love snowboards Rip Curl has organised a Girls Tour which is back in Les Portes du Soleil again this season. There are freestyle snowboard and freeski lessons, demos and competitions. As well as qualified instructors the Rip Curl Team Pros will be on hand to offer top tips on style and technique. On the second day of the event there will be a ‘TRICKS ‘N’ FUN’ contest open to all snowboarding girls. There is also a whole bunch of Rip Curl snowboard and Mountain wear are up for grabs for the snowboard and ski winners respectively. Ripcurl have told me that everyone is welcome, whatever their skills, for beginners’ classes up to more advanced sessions. There will be DJ’s, lunch and a test of ski and snow equipment with Apo Snowboards so basically you will be busy all day. They finish up with the RIP CURL GIRLS TOUR PARTY (show of the day’s photos, fashion show, videos, and DJ’s) and I believe there are goodie bags. Definitely worth learning snowboarding for.
