“Olympic Day” – Morzine – 22nd February

Morzine is incredibly proud of Jean Vuarnet. The 22nd February is the 50th anniversary of Jean Vuarnet’s Olympic Games victory. To mark the event Morzine is unveiling a statue of their hero 50 years after the Morzinois skier won the gold medal in downhill at the Squaw Valley Winter Games. There will be a live video link-up to Morzine’s current Olympians who are participating in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. This will be followed by a huge party in support of the Annecy 2018 Games bid. It is going to be great fun as the town is fiercely proud of its sportsmen and sportswomen. The night will end with a beautiful torchlit descent into the centre of the village, entertainment from local schoolchildren, free mulled wine and sweets! A truly local and somewhat historic event.

Venue: Tourist Office square.
