Megève Art Sessions: until 30th April 2011

The tourist office for the ski resort Megève has put together an incredible events calendar for this winter ski season, ranging from polo events, golf events, ski events and of course the arts. This winter, in collaboration with the Bartoux Art Gallery, Megève has created art installations and exhibitions spilling out onto the pedestrian walkways of the town.

More than seven sculptures have been placed along the streets. These imposing bronze sculptures stand more than 2 metres tall and were created by three contemporary artists. Their placement around the traditional village of Megève is seen as a means of combining ‘winter wonderland’ with contemporary art. It’s a truly unique open air exhibition and is part of the run up to a Dali exhibition that is planned for 2012. More information on Dali to follow….

Morzine news – The art of Parkour (free running)

Parkour (or free running as it is sometimes known) is the art of getting from A to B as fast as possible using only the human body and your physical environment. You might be more familiar with parkour from action movies where actors appear to leap from roof to roof or scale the sides of buildings using fire escapes. 

During the final week of August Morzine is offering a week of Parkour training utilizing its own natural environment of high mountains, fierce rivers and obstacles a plenty. Trainees will be seen scaling the sides of mountains, leaping from rock to rock across rivers and scrabbling barefoot through the muddy forests. They will also be scaling the odd chalet! The training is tough and the sport is apparently quite addictive. Snow Golf Cup – Megève

A unique concept in the world of Amateur Golf, the Vacheron Constantin Snow Golf Cup unites lovers of golf from all over the globe in the snowy backdrop of Megève. The five day experience has guests teeing off at the prestigious Mont d’Arbois Golf Club, attending a lavish gala and award ceremony and dining at the station’s most popular restaurants. There are a variety of different events including a Snow Golf kids day, the Schweppes Winter Cup, The Vacheron Constantin Snow Golf Cup and the World Snow Golf Championship.  This year’s Tenth Annual tournament (which ran from 27th to 31st January) was once again a huge success. Golf on snow must be seen to be believed so perhaps pencil something in the diary for next year.
