Les Carroz, Grand Massif

Les Carroz

Back

Resort altitude: 1140 m

Les Carroz is just 55 km from Geneva and 40 km from Chamonix. It is a typical Savoyard village with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Although there are bars, restaurants and shops and a local market every Tuesday, perhaps the worst (or best, depending on your perspective) feature of Les Carroz is the lack of any really good nightlife. Due to increased investment, the once traditional hamlet of Les Carroz is rapidly growing and has expanded to cover a large area on the road up to Flaine. Generally, it's a good venue for families, although its low altitude offers less reliable snow so if you want to ski to your door, Flaine may be the better option. Throughout the years Les Carroz has maintained its authenticity, whilst offering all year round a wide range of different sporting and cultural activities for all ages.

Winter
The ski resort of Les Carroz D'Araches is a skiing village created in 1936, the lift served area extends up to 2500 meters. From Les Carroz you have access to 265m of pistes which make up the Grand Massif ski domain in the French Northern Alps. Here you will find 1000 acres of traced slopes, 75 ski lifts and 94.5 km of Cross country skiing trails. From Les Carroz you have access to the ski villages of Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt. Being close to the Mont Blanc range and its ideal topography ensures the ski area has a good snow covering throughout the months of the winter season. With a great range of well groomed pistes and snowy bowls to explore, you can be guaranteed superb skiing. Les Carroz also offers many other winter sports and pleanty of activities for children.

Summer
The Giffre Valley is noted in the French Blue guide as "une des plus ravissants des Alpes" it is truly a hidden treasure, the ideal place to stay for a family holiday the year round . Much of the valley is classified "Parc Naturel" with exceptional fauna and flora. With around 200km of market footpaths in the Grand Massif hiking is a popular way of exploring the beautiful scenery in the Summer. Les Carroz also offers excellent facilities for cycling as well as tennis, golf and fishing. There are plenty of water sports available on either the river Arve or Giffre from white-water rafting to canyoning.
