Morillon and its satellite hamlets are situated in the beautiful Giffre Valley, 4 km from picturesque medieval Samoëns. The village is centred around the 16th century Church of St Christope and combines traditional houses with new chalets and attractive apartments,. The Giffre Valley is noted in the French Blue guide as "une des plus ravissants des Alpes" it is truly a hidden treasure, the ideal place to stay for a family holiday the year round . Much of the valley is classified "Parc Naturel" with exceptional fauna and flora. The Haute Savoyard residents are very proud of its beauty.
Winter
Located in the ski domain of the Grand Massif, French Northern Alps, Morillon is an incredibly accessible resort, only a fifteen minute drive from the motorway exit near the TGV train station of Cluses and only 55 km from Geneva.
Morillon 1100 - Les Esserts
At 5, 5 km from the main village, at the heart of the alpine pastures and the Grand Massif slopes is the charming resort of Morillon 1100 - Les Esserts. The Grand Massif has a total of 265 km of slopes, 1000 acres of traced slopes, 75 ski lifts and 94.5 km of Cross-country skiing trails. From Morillon you have access to ski villages of Flaine, Samoëns, Les Carroz and Sixt.
Summer
The recreational park, the "Lac Bleu" situated at the very centre of Morillon offers a multitude of activities for all ages: fishing, swimming, tennis, horse riding, petanque, mini golf and more. In the summer, the forest hosts, 'The Adventurers of the Lac Bleu', a seven level Acrobatic tour for all the family from age 4 upwards. Other water activities, including white water rafting & canoeing are available locally on the River Giffre.
Further along the valley towards Cirque du Fer a Cheval is the village of Sixt with a former Augustinian abbey founded in 1144, and 5 km to the south of Sixt is the magnificient waterfall - Cascade du Rouget. Guided walks can be booked at the Tourist Office to explore this spectacular nature reserve. Or try a tandem paragliding flight with a qualified instructor or book a Helicopter flight to explore the region from the air.
The Potholing reputation of the Haut Giffre Mountains is worldwide. With professional guides you can descend into this exceptional underground network of caves and holes patiently excavated through the centuries by underground streams through the layers of limestone. The valley of Haut-Giffre, the last calcareous bastion before the granite external Alps has numerous climbing sites where beginners and experienced climbers can test their skills.
