Taninges is conveniently situated 10 minutes drive between the Portes du Soleil ski area resorts of Les Gets, Morzine and Avoriaz with 650 km of ski slopes to explore and the Grand massif ski area connecting the 5 resorts of Morillon, Samoëns, Sixt fer à Cheval, Les Carroz d'Araches and Flaine.
The family ski station of Praz de Lys is also within easy access.
Summer
Steeped in history, the old borough of Taninges was the centre of commerce until the middle of the 20th century. Discover the old 16th century bridge, the Chapel of Saint-Anne built in 1583, and the rue des Arcades dating from the Middle Ages, which housed the local bourgeois, as well as craftsmen's workshops and market stalls. The historic site of Chartreuse de Mélan, an ancient monastery founded in 1285 is home to departmental and regional contemporary art and sculpture.
Guided tours are organized in the summer for the following:
Chartreuse de Mélan: Every Thursday at 18.00
Church Saint Jean-Baptiste: Every Wednesday at 6.00 pm
The old town - minimum 10 people: Every Tuesday at 6.00 pm
Le Carillon de Taninges: every Tuesday at 6.00 pm and throughout the year every Thursday morning at 10.30 am
There is a weekly market every Thursday morning
You can walk along the old paved Roman road which for centuries was the only possible route for Praz-de-Lys. Horse riding, tennis, mini golf, paragliding and white water activities are also available locally.
