Megève an upmarket ski resort town that forms part of the Evasion Mont Blanc region in Savoie. It is within a hours reach of Geneva, mostly along the A40 motoway. You will find this charming town with a well preserved medieval centre featuring narrow cobbled streets, tastefully restored buildings and a picturesque church. Megève is an authentic French ski resort that is rich in tradition and history, and has retained its rustic charm. The town centre is pedestrian. There are plenty of activities to be enjoyed as well as its renowned skiing; the resort features a beauty farm, a climbing wall, a sports centre, a museum, French linguistic courses, and a cinema. There is also a local market held on Friday mornings. Megève is renowned for its sublime gastronomy, and has a vast range of diverse eateries. The nightlife is vibrant and varied, with 20 bars, nine discos, a casino, a piano bar and a wide selection of clubs.
Winter
The ski area of Megève is plentiful. Megève's skiing is divided into three sectors with two of them, Mont d'Arbois and Rochebrune, joined by cablecars. It is easily accessible from the cable car in the centre of town. There are a total of 226kms groomed scenic slopes ranging up to 2350 meters, the longest of which is just under four kilometers long. The resort is a delight for beginners and intermediates alike; there is also a fair amount to entertain the advanced skier in the higher levels of the ski area. Access to the slopes is gained via 79 lifts.
Megève is also a popular destination for cross-country skiers with four circuits totaling 70 km. There is also a terrain park to be found at Mont Joux and a boardercross at Rochebrune.
During winter time you can also enjoy horse-drawn sleigh tours of the village, ice-skating, indoor swimming, bowling, indoor tennis, mono-skiing, paragliding, snowboarding, tobogganing, hot air balloon rides and curling. Small plane flights over the Mont Blanc chain are also available.
Summer
Megève offers a whole range of activities to its summer visitors - you can visit the man-made beach and swim in the lake at Combloux or try the water slides in the town's outdoor pool (there is also an indoor pool for the odd bad day). There are plenty of paths and trails to be explored as well as the Summer Luge (for children and adults alike) at Jaillet. There's also mountain biking, white water rafting, fishing, golfing, tennis, horse riding, hot air ballooning and you can even have a flight over Mont Blanc.
