Resort altitude: 950 m
Morzine is a picturesque Savoyard village, which has successfully maintained its historical charm, while developing as one of the top European winter sports resorts and increasingly establishing itself as a favourite destination for summer holidays in the Alps.
It is a quick and easy transfer (90 minutes) from Geneva airport.
Winter
In winter it is an ideal point from which to access the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, which is one of the largest and most diverse ski areas in the world. There are over 650 km of pistes catering for all levels of skier from total beginner to advanced. Snowboarders too are very well provided for with a number of parks and half pipes.
Mozine is located right in the heart of this ski domain. On one side of the town are the slopes of Le Pleney and Nyon which link into Les Gets and on the other side of the village is Super Morzine which connects into Avoriaz, the highest point of the Portes du Soleil at 1800 m with lifts rising to 2400 m.
From here you have access to the other resorts which make up the Portes du Soleil; you could ski a different resort every day or tour as many different areas as you can fit into one day.
Summer
In summer the resort is becoming very popular with mountain bikers and walkers. The lifts reopen from mid-June to mid-September, giving access to an extensive mountain biking area and to stunning mountain walks.
Adventure seekers can choose from white water rafting, canoeing, canyoning, bungee jumping, rock climbing, or paragliding. There are lots of facilities available for active family holidays. There is a large open air swimming complex with chute, learner pool, grassed areas and volleyball courts. There are tennis courts, a rope adventure course, a toboggan run, pony trekking and lakes for swimming.
Morzine is thriving and lively at most times of the year and has all the facilities you would expect of a world class resort. There is a large selection of excellent restaurants, numerous bars, plenty of shops, 2 nightclubs, 2 cinemas (showing English films in the main seasons) a fitness centre and Olympic sized indoor ice rink. There is an open air market once a week.
